“Disinformation is about manipulation and goes hand in hand with the development of company technologies, such as Facebook and Twitter, towards an engagement business model.”
This is how Lori Regattieri, a ten-year researcher on fake news on digital platforms and creator of Ecomídia, explains the environment of disinformation on the internet for Infoamazonia.
As part of the special “Amazonas: lies have a price”, the vehicle investigated the YouTube channel linked to the prince Dom Bertrand of Orleans and Bragança who shares misinformation in videos that defend private property and time frame.
Dom Bertrand is the founder of the Plínio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute (IPCO), created in honor of one of the organizers of the coup that established the dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985) and defends the restoration of the monarchy in Brazil.
For the report, Lori assesses that IPCO follows the modus operandi of the global far right. “There is a global connection and a global alliance to exchange knowledge and how to operate advertising campaigns. This has to do with disinformation because for years it has been used for war and military propaganda for persuasion. It is in these territories that the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO) is also very active. There is a very high percentage of engagement on Mourão’s posts, for example. Disinformation is about manipulation and goes hand in hand with the development of company technologies, such as Facebook and Twitter, towards an engagement business model.”
