Amazon online: connecting people and human rights safeguards was the theme of one of the sessions of the Internet Governance Forum – 2022, organized by Beatrice Bonami, from Instituto Vero and with the participation of Lori Regattieri, founder of Ecomídia, among other guests.
The central theme of the panel was the discussion on how internet governance can contribute to improving the visibility and understanding of climate and environmental policies.
Three major questions guided the debate and had the horizon to generate a list of recommendations to local governments, in order to ensure a fair technological environment for all future generations:
1. What are the existing Internet governance mechanisms to ensure connectivity between indigenous territories in the Amazon rainforest, and how to make digital connection a reality for all citizens who inhabit the forest?
2. How can Internet governance help reduce climate and environmental misinformation, and how can digital social platforms be a device to break cycles of misinformation among developing countries?
3. How can Internet governance forums improve the participation of indigenous peoples by fostering their voice and indigenous knowledge in decision-making processes?
